Laser Hair Removal Q & A
What Makes Cutera CoolGlide® Better?
The Cutera CoolGlide laser is a revolutionary hair removal system that works on patients with any skin type. Whether you have fair skin, dark skin, or a deep tan, Cutera CoolGlide can give you the results you want.
What Should Patients Expect During Treatments?
The Cutera CoolGlide laser includes an innovative cooling feature designed to soothe the skin throughout the treatment process. During the procedure, you won’t need any pain medication or local anesthesia. However, if you’re worried about pain, Dr. Ohanian may use a topical anesthetic.
When the laser delivers pulses of light, you may notice a mild stinging or pinching sensation.
What are the Possible Side Effects?
Although most patients experience very few side effects, you may notice a slight reddening or swelling of your skin. In most cases, these effects will disappear within a few hours. In rare instances, blistering may occur.
How Many Treatments Will Patients Need?
Every hair goes through the same growth cycle. This cycle has three phases: growth, regression, and resting. The Cutera CoolGlide laser disables hairs that are in the growth phase during treatment. Because all hairs enter this phase at different times, it usually takes more than one session to disable every hair follicle in the treatment area.
To get the best results, you may need anywhere from three to six treatments with Cutera CoolGlide. However, the exact number of treatments you need will depend on the area Dr. Ohanian is treating, the thickness of your hair, and your hair growth cycle.
What Should Patients Expect After Treatment?
After your Cutera CoolGlide treatment is complete, you may notice some swelling and redness. Over the next week, you may also notice more hair in the treatment area. Although this may seem like a regrowth of hair, you’re actually shedding most of the hairs.
In most cases, you’ll be able to return to your normal activities immediately after treatment. However, you should use sunscreen on any treated skin that will be exposed to sunlight. Also, you should avoid waxing or plucking your hair between treatments.
